About Cortok

What IS a Cortok?

A real-life human that makes things and thinks about stuff. Other than that, I have no idea.

Tell me something personal!

My favourite colours are blue and orange. I like bones. Also *gestures vaguely to website*

What stuff do you make?

Games with RPG Maker and Godot Engine. Sometimes I dabble in other mediums. I value atmosphere and feeling in my games. Though haven't finished any that fit that criteria. Most of my finished games are small game jam games. Which is fine. Try Tertianoumenon or Funny Dog Game if you want an idea of what I want to make but stuggle to complete. All my games are on my itch.io page (click the "games" link to the left)

Why did you make a website?

Why make anything? Because I wanted to. I have always thought websites were cool, but never really got around to making (a functional) one. I think every kid tries to make their own website at some point and in this case I decided to make kid Cortok's dream come true. Also it's fun and my lifeforce depends on the joy of creation.

Yeah but why not just make a twitter/tumblr/etc?

I already have and they're boring af. Ok no, that's unfair to say. They don't serve the same purpose as a personal website. On tumblr, I follow fandoms and users and enjoy sharing art, theories, comments, jokes. It's a way to communicate on an albeit shallow level (nb not entirely the platform's fault, I don't put in much effort). Which is not a bad thing. It's nice to pop into a conversation, leave a few words, and continue on with my day. Twitter is the same. But I see this site as a collection of things: a place to express myself, to shout into the void (without the void shouting back), an archive, a keepsakes box, a directory. It's my nest. Comparing this site with social media is like apples and oranges. Except I greatly prefer apples and now I'm getting off topic. Social media is... fine. It's better used as a tool than something to spend hours doomscrolling on. Of which I hope this site will help deliver me from such temptations.

What else do you like?

Video games, music, manga (don't watch enough anime to be a fan tbh), tech old and new (ps1 will never die!), learning, animals (esp corvids), occult/creepy stuff, SFF, graphic design is my passion... I have the attention span of a gnat, so this changes all the time. On the fandom side of things, I'm really into a book series called The Locked Tomb (the first book is called Gideon the Ninth). It's a little difficult to describe, but it's a sci-fi series about necromancers, space fascism, and love. It's gross, it's funny, it will break your heart, it's the horniest series I've read without actually containing any sex. It's super queer. I'm crazy about it and I want to hug Harrow and then push Ianthe down a flight of stairs. Also Final Fantasy XIV. I love the story and world, but it's also one of those games I can grind on for hours when I don't feel like doing anything else. I guess you could say it's my Tetris.

Is this the end?

Nevermore. ~ C
